HEAD START

Every great journey has a beginning. Ours began in the historic South Side of Pittsburgh, PA. Fat Head's Saloon was founded in 1992 and established itself as an early pioneer in bringing the craft beer industry to the area. The original Fat Head's earned an amazing following and has continually maintained a reputation as a premiere craft beer tap house and restaurant.

In 2009 Fat Head's teamed up with award winning brewer Matt Cole to create Fat Head's Brewery & Saloon in North Olmsted, Ohio and it crashed the scene like a two-headed monster. Success was virtually instantaneous (it came quickly). Producing over 5000 barrels in its first 3 years of business, Fat Head's beers gained notoriety by winning some of the most acclaimed awards in the brewing industry.

TWO HEADED MONSTER

Fueled by high demand and the explosion in popularity of Fat Head's beers, we expanded to a full-scale production brewery in 2012. Fat Head's Brewery is located in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. We are dedicated to staying true to our core values of hard work and pride in craftsmanship that resonate throughout the region. We hope you enjoy the ride.

MATT COLE  HEAD BREWMASTER

At 14 years young, Matt inherited a small plot of land 17 nautical miles NNE of Lindau on the eastern side of Lake Constance in Austria. Living in a yurt and foraging his own meals he discovered his intense affection for the hop flower. He began to use it in every recipe he concocted. Upon serving his homebrewed Hop-A-Noodle Soup to a group of explorers, they astutely pointed out that he had an innate sense and should seek to become a Master Brewer. Not one to rest on his laurels, or any other flowering plant for that matter, Matt sold his land in Bavaria, toured the European countryside learning from the masters and honed his brewing skills. Hopped up on raw desire and resin, Matt returned to his homeland on a mission to brew world-class beer. After an apprenticeship at Baltimore Brewing Co. Matt moved to the brew hub of North America, Cleveland Ohio where he brewed at Great Lakes Brewing Co. then enjoyed a much lauded stint as Brewmaster at Rocky River Brewing. Aligning himself with others possessing the same passion, Matt became the co-owner and Head Brewmaster of Fat Head's Brewery where his award-winning brews have garnered him fame the world over. The rest, as they say, is a mystery.

GLENN BENIGNI  HEAD BOOTLEGGER

Proud son of Italian immigrants Mr. Benigni rejected his family's advice to open a pizzeria and began his studies of beer shortly after his voice lowered. Glenn claims responsibility for coining the phrase "Craft Beer" which is what he labeled the homebrew he smuggled into the artisan crafted bread factory he worked in during his well documented grain research period. With his newly acquired bootlegging skills and his love of any grain product including bread and beer, Glenn along with his wife Michelle (the real brains of the outfit) opened Fat Head's Saloon, a craft beer haven with munchies to match. With his passion for the growing craft beer world (that he assumed the industry had so kindly named after him) and discovering there would be no royalty checks for his now world-renowned "Craft Beer" moniker, Glenn conspired with his friend, Master Brewer Matt Cole, to stand the beer world on it's head. They formulated plans to roll the dice, pass GO at full speed and build a world-class brewery. Fat Head's was born.

BREWNO  HEAD HOP DOG

After his involvement in the highly publicized scandal behind the scenes at the Eastminster Kennel Club Dog Show with a cheeky Bichon Frise, Brewno's reputation preceded him. So did his nose. Muzzle to the pavement, stopping only momentarily to mark his territory, Brewno's snout led him away from the show ring and on to greener pastures. As it turns out, they weren't really pastures, but hop yards where he met our Head Brewmaster. A quick whiff of Matt's nether regions and the duo became fast friends. Like a pig seeks out truffles, Brewno evidently had a nose for the finest ingredients. Brewno's innate sense was just what Matt needed to smell out the very best hops for his beers. Brewno's sniffer has already proved invaluable, helping our beers win a slew of Best in Show awards. We raise a pint to man's best friend.

CHRIS ALLTMONT  HEAD OF OPERATIONS

Chris is one cool cat. Sworn to secrecy after departure from a security branch of the government, Chris found himself in search of the next challenge. Grandson to an American Seaman and a Belgian lady of the evening, Chris was torn between his desires to explore the deep, dark and often deadly ocean or become a bon vivant and study the fine art of craft brewing. Feeling destined for greatness, Chris set his sights on beer and the pitometer on full speed ahead. Using government surplus, an erector set and his bare hands, he built a magical little brewhouse and taught himself how to create incredible beer. Cool, eh? After volunteering his way into the brewhouse with Mamee Bay he took his first paid gig with the pseudo Australian Brewpub Wallaby's and became a journeymen brewer with tours of duty at Crooked River, Willoughby Brewing, POC, Roadhouse and The Brew Kettle - a virtual one man Ohio Craft Brewers Association. Chris then spent 7 years preserving and defending the Rhineheitsgebot at Gordon Biersch. Matt dug the cat, tipped his hat, said "Hey Jack, join the Fat Pack." Yeah, this cat is way cool.

GEOFF STOBER  HEAD T-SHIRT MODEL

A man of self-proclaimed good looks and determinant spirit, Geoff retired from his duties as a world-class rodeo clown after suffering an undisclosed lower-body injury. After many years of wearing the hide off the nauga on a bar stool, Geoff was destined to join the Fat Head's crew. The speed, agility and athleticism Geoff exhibited in his early years at Fat Head's made him the obvious candidate to take on the arduous duties of Head T-Shirt Model and Beer Camp Counselor where he reigned supremely out of bounds. Wisely resigning his membership shortly before a unanimous vote to revoke Geoff's Beer Camp affiliation, he found himself free to roam the countryside posing for the paparazzi and repping our brand at pubs, ale houses and restaurants where he'll literally give people the shirt off his back. (Of course he'll remind you that you won't look as good in it as he does.) On rare occasion he jumps back into the ring to wrangle an unruly bronc, but mostly he can be found clownin' 'round the barrels in our brewery.

MIKE ZOSCAK  HEAD HOSE DRAGGER

A talented smokejumper, Mike was reputed to chute into the deadliest of situations, nostrils flared and hose cocked, ready for action. After singeing himself and kinking his favorite hose on a dangerous jump into a remote area of Montana, Mike vowed to begin a second career based on his college minor, beer pong. Already quite the master at beer consumption he wanted to elevate his hose dragging capabilities to a higher level. Brewing seemed the obvious next step. Mike sent away for the “Pocket Brewerman” from the infamous infomercial and turned his bathtub into a mash tun. Like spontaneous combustion Mike and his life’s work had become one. After a couple of small brewing gigs Mike sought out Fat Heads Brewpub and the coveted tutelage of his friend, Brewmaster Matt Cole. Poster child for fast learners, Mike abandoned his mechanical engineering background and quickly became Head Hose Dragger and a damn fine brewer in his own mind. Most days Mike can be found at the Brewpub where he enjoys all of the customers who tap on the glass to say hello. He also appreciates the customers who like to press their face against the glass. Especially the blonde girl with Cherry Blossom lip gloss.

SARA CLEARY  HEAD OF THE HOP SQUAD

Sara hails from a prominent family of scientists. She grew up in a rural area of Philadelphia on land that her father professed to be rich in history. The family started a massive archeological dig at the site and the excavations not only uncovered the original Liberty Bell but, more importantly, an entrance plateau to Benjamin Franklin's ancient brewery. The die was cast. Sara left Ithaca College with a degree in beer (even though there were no official classes offered in it) to follow her dream. Touring the country in search of a brewmaster that treated the hop flower like a sacred gift, she learned virtually everything there is to know about the brewing industry. Utilizing the skills from her sojourn, Sara set her sights on selling beer to the masses and began repping for a large craft brewery. One dark and stormy night she ducked into a bar in Cleveland and sipped the foam off the top of a coveted cup of locally brewed Head Hunter IPA. Smitten by the aroma and taste of hops, she inquired as to it's origin and what brewer was responsible for this mastery. He was two barstools away. Praise was lauded and credentials were shared. Beer flowed and feathers flew. She migrated from her latest roost and flew head first to the Fat side.
